Hazel Norene Nygaard
Hazel Norene Nygarrd, 86, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013, in Hurst. Services and Christian burial were held at St. Olafs (Rock) Lutheran Church on Monday, July 15.
She, along with her twin brother, Noran were born to Hannah and Otto Nygaard on Oct. 22, 1926 in the Mustang community near Cranfills Gap.
She attended school in Cranfills Gap and at Clifton Jr. College. She proceeded with her education at North Texas State University. Her life’s vocation was teaching. She was an elementary grade public school teacher for 38 years in Houston. She taught the children of NASA astronauts. She concluded her teaching careet in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford school district in 1983.
She had an outgoing personality and many talents. She was a wonderful dancer and taught at several notable studios. She and her dance partners gave exhibitions at country clubs, Neiman Marcus parties, and grand hotels. She also liked to sing and play her Daddy’s old accordion. One of her artistic hobbies was arranging silk flowers. She chronicled her amazing life in her book, A Time of My Life – By the Grace of God, and dedicated it to her family and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In retirement, she continued to gain friends and influence people. She enjoyed an environment that allowed her free spirit to prevail. Her faith was the most important single aspect of her life.
She is survived by her twin brother, Olney Noran Nygaard and her sister, Myrtice Irene Larson of Arlington.
