Clifford W. “Slim” Knighten, age 73, of Clifton, passed away Sunday evening, Oct. 27, 2013, in a Clifton nursing facility after an extended illness. Memorial services were held Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, in the Bosque County Cowboy Church, located on Hwy. 6, between Meridian and Clifton. Pastor Tater Paschal officiating. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of the usual remembrances memorials be made to Bosque County Cowboy Church P.O. Box 308 Meridian, Texas 76665. Slim was born Oct. 2, 1940, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was a son of the late Jim Knighten and Mae Collins Tutrow. He lived in Bosque County most of his life and worked as a rancher. Slim was a important part of the National Championship Barbecue Cookoff in Meridian for several years. He was a Baptist. He married Imogene “Tootie” Alvey on August 9, 1963 in Fort Worth and she preceded him in death on September 28, 2002. A daughter, Pamela Kay Knighten also preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Gale Noland and husband, Mark, of Clifton; Linda Moore of Gatesville, Connie Baxter of Valley Mills and Joe Smith and his wife, Nicki, of Georgia; seven grandchildren, including, Kaci Noland Fry and husband, Brandon, of Smithville; Megan Noland of Clifton; Jami Conrad Tunnel and husband, Clint, of Blanket; Kristina Gilbreath of Gatesville; Dakota Baxter Phelps and husband, Josh, of Twentynine Palms, CA, and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Bobby Smith of Valley Mills; a number of other relatives and many friends.
