By Carol Spicer.
Steven Fromholz, singer, songwriter, poet, actor, whitewater river guide, rancher and Texas Poet Laureate, was killed in a freak gun accident in Schelicher County, Texas on Jan. 19, 2014. He and his companion and ranch owner, Susan or “Sweetums,” were preparing to check traps they had built to capture feral hogs which were becoming ever more prevalent in West Texas. It was their habit to check the check the traps, destroy any hogs therein, and leave the carcasses to be removed by ranch hands. They were not, as generally reported by most of the press, “going hunting for feral hogs.”
