Billy Joe Bakke

Graveside services for Billy Joe Bakke, 83, were held Thursday, May 1, 2014, in the Clifton Cemetery with Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. Military honors were given by the Clifton VFW and the American Legion Post. He was born on May 6, 1930 to John A and Ora Clyde Bakke in Clifton. He passed away on Monday, April 28, 2014. He married Virgie Leola McFadden on Dec. 27, 1957 in Clifton. Bakke was a graduate of Cranfills Gap High School and received his Master of Science degree from North Texas State College. He spent time as a U.S. Army corporal in Germany and France before beginning his teaching career in Cleburne. He was proud to serve 33 years in Cleburne ISD as a coach at Fulton Jr. High, and then principal of Adams, Irving and JN Long Elementary schools. He will be remembered as a caring educator who make a difference in many lives. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, as well as spending countless hours fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Bakke. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Virgie Bakke of Cleburne; son, Mike Bakke and wife, Angie of Colleyville; daughter, Karen Wright and husband, Rob of San Marcos; four grandchildren, Andrea Bakke of San Antonio, Lori Bakke of Colleyville, Lane and Shane Wright of San Marcos. The Bakke family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CISD Alumni Scholarship Fund (817-202-1112) or the Cleburne Education Foundation, P.O. Box 173, Cleburne TX 76033. Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
