Graveside services for Margie Bertelsen Rhoades, 92, were held Friday, May 2, 2014, at the Rock Church Cemetery at Cranfills Gap. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Worth on Saturday, May 3. Margie Bertelsen was born on Oct. 15, 1921 in Cranfills Gap. She passed away in Fort Worth on April 27, 2014. She graduated from Cranfills Gap High School in 1938, Clifton College in 1940, and Baylor University in 1942. She taught at Clifton High School from 1942 to 1945, then served with the American Red Cross serving the Armed Forces from 1945-1948. When she returned, she lived with her family in Fort Worth, where she married Charles Rhoades on Dec. 27, 1949. She taught English and Journalism in the Fort Worth school system from 1948 to 1982, retiring from Meadowbrook Junior High, where she was head of the English department from 1971-1982. She continued living in her home in Fort Worth until her death. She was a charter member of her church, Trinity Lutheran Church of Forth Worth and an active member of her community. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Rhoades; parents, Martin and Alice Bertelsen; brother, William B Bertelsen; sisters, Cliffie Drucke, Travis Langford, Alle Mae Tyler, Frances Carlin and Virgie Denton. She is survived by a daughter, Alice J. Rhoades and numberous nieces and nephews.
