Cub to Cowboy
by Brett Voss & Simone Wichers-Voss
Before proud family, friends, school faculty and fellow students in the high school gym on National Signing Day Feb. 1, Clifton Cub Clayton Caniford beamingly signed a national letter of intent, committing himself to study at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.
During his studies, Caniford will be part of the university’s Cowboys football team and hopes to get a shot at being a receiver.
“My heart swells with pride in this prestigious moment for Clayton,” Clifton High School Principal Becky Burnett said to the crowd. “This is a young man with a ‘Can Do’ personality; always giving 150 percent. And that smile is always there. I am so proud of you.”
