Darlene Hulme

Darlene Hulme, age 93, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2016 in the Clifton Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Clifton Cemetery. Born December 19, 1922 in Henderson, Iowa, Darlene was the daughter of I.O. and Maude Jacobs. She was the second oldest of six siblings. She attended school in Council Bluffs, Iowa and after graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1943, she completed her basic training and indoctrination courses at the Naval Training School in the Bronx, New York. After which, she reported to San Pedro, California for duty in the Radio-Radar Division. Darlene met her husband, Allen, and they were married in Long Beach, California on December 23, 1944. She was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy as storekeeper second class and returned to Clifton, Texas to await her husband’s return from Okinawa.

Virginia Rae Svach

Virginia “Ginny” Rae Svach, 82, of Lakeside Village passed away Sunday morning, February 21, 2016 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She was being treated for Acute Myeloid Leukemia. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Lakeside Village, located at 156 CR 1307 in Lakeside Village. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, www.LLS.org, or to First Baptist Church of Lakeside Village, 156 CR 1307, Morgan, TX 76671. Ginny was born on January 28, 1934 in Joliet, Illinois to Raymond David Rang and Lillian Alberta (Astbury) Rang. She grew up in Joliet and after attending Joliet Township High School went on to nurses training at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet. She graduated in 1954 and became a Registered Nurse. She met her future husband, Louis “Lou” Anton Svach, in 1951, while he was serving in the US Navy during the Korean War.

Katherine Ann Tindall

Katherine Ann Tindall passed to be with her Lord February 17, 2016. She was born in Meridian, Texas, on September 23, 1942. Katherine attended Cranfills Gap Schools, and enjoyed small-town Texas childhood and teenage years. Shortly after High School, she married Jimmy Doshier, a marriage which ended in divorce after a few years. Katherine returned to live with her mother in Cranfills Gap in the mid-1980’s. She was a faithful employee of Hico Nursing Home and for more than ten years at Sunset Lutheran Home in Clifton. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cranfills Gap, where she grew up in the faith, and where she regularly attended Sunday school and church. The members there formed a close family to her. Katherine did not have children of her own, so her deep concern and enjoyment in life centered around her three nieces, Michele, Lisa, and Stephanie, and nephew Ross.

Olney Noran Nygaard

Olney Noran Nygaard, age 89, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2016 in Arlington, TX. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February, 24 2016 at St. Olaf’s Rock Church with Pastor Joan Iker officiating. Burial will follow at the Rock Church Cemetery. Olney Noran Nygaard was born on a farm and ranch near Cranfills Gap, Texas on October 22, 1926. Upon completion of Cranfiils Gap High School, Noran enrolled in Clifton Jr. College in Clifton, Texas. Noran was called into military service and was sent to the Pacific islands. When he returned he attended Texas A & M University and North Texas State University. Noran worked in the oil fields of West Texas before following a friend to the Northwest. He was employed in geophysical and civil engineering on the Pacific Coast, U.S.A. He was hired by a surveying crew and worked all over the Northwest, mainly in Washington and Oregon. He loved this area and became a master surveyor, better known as “Big Tex” to one and all.

Janice Barron Elston

Janice (Jan) Barron Elston, 84, of Pampa, died February 23, 2016 in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, February 26, 2016, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Lonny Robbins, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.Jan was born September 12, 1931 in Lamesa to John N. and Mildred Barron. She was reared in Lamesa and graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock in 1954. She taught school in Sunray and Houston. Since 1986, she served as a volunteer tutor in the Pampa Adult Literacy Program, and also served as a tutor trainer, teaching literacy tutor workshops in several towns in the Panhandle. Since 1966, Jan was a volunteer with the Tri-State Golf Association tournament. She was past president of several medical auxiliaries, including Top O’ Texas, Hutchinson County and Gray County Medical Auxiliaries.

Fern Johnson Wiggins

Heaven opened up on February 14, 2016 to welcome home our Valentine, Fern Johnson Wiggins, 94, of Clifton, TX. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 18th, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton. Pastor Clayton McCord officiated. Burial was in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery at Norse. Organist for the service was long time friend, Martha Erickson and soloist was John Erickson. Clara Fern Johnson Wiggins R.N. was born on June 27, 1921, in the Norwegian community of Clifton. Fern was baptized into Christ at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in 1921. She was also confirmed there on Pentecost in 1935. Fern grew up on the family farm at Norse, a place where a great and loyal work ethic was nurtured, and attended grade school and jr. high at Turkey Creek School. In 1939, Fern graduated from Clifton High School, after having been a cheerleader for the Clifton Cubs. She then attended Clifton College where she met her sweetheart and future husband, Tommy Wiggins.

Sammy Lewis Slagle

Sammy Lewis Slagle born in Commerse, Texas July 25, 1931. Sammy passed from this life into eternity in Phoenix, AZ on January 25, 2016. Sammy grew up in Amarillo, TX. Graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Business at West Texas A&M University. After two years in the Army Sam married Francis Roberta Paul in 1955. They had two sons Terry Lee Slagle and Kenney Slagle. After retiring from the railroad Sam and Francis purchased a business they named Fran’s Sweeping. They kept 3 trucks cleaning up the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for many years. While Francis and two other drivers did the sweeping Sam kept the trucks up and running by doing all the mechanical repairs himself. Sam had a variety of interests including flying his Cessna, talking on his CB Radio, Square dancing and photography. Sam’s first love was his family and friends.

Ada Margaret Hardcastle

Ada Margaret (Geeslin) Hardcastle, 83, of Meridian passed away peacefully Thursday morning, February 18th, 2016. Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church, Meridian with Pastor Kevin Wilson officiating. Burial was at the Meridian Cemetery. Ada Margaret was born in Center City, Texas, December 13, 1932 to Hubert and Mabel Geeslin. She was the youngest of four children. She graduated high school a year early so her mother, in failing health at the time, could see her graduate. She attended a two year school before marriage. She worked a number of years for the Bosque County Education Co-op and worked with several school superintendents during that time. December 16, 1950, she married Billy Ray Hardcastle of Meridian, Texas. They were married at the First United Methodist Church in Goldthwaite, Texas. To this union was born two sons and two daughters. Phyllis Ann, Billy Paul, Tracy Len and Suzanne.

Helen Ruth Young

Helen Ruth (Finke) Young, age 77, of Crowley, Texas, passed from this earthly life and into the arms of Jesus on Feb. 8, 2016. Funeral services were at the Valley Mills First Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Valley Mills Cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2630 West Freeway, Ste. 100, Ft. Worth, Tx. 76102. Ruth was born June 28, 1938, at home near Valley Mills to Willie Ernest “Bill” Finke and Pauline Darby Finke. She was baptized in Steele Creek. Ruth was a 1956 graduate of Morgan High School where she was salutatorian. Ruth worked for Braniff Airlines from 1958 until 1982 beginning as a keypunch operator and later in the accounting department. She met and fell in love with Melvin S. Young and they were married on April 27, 1996, at East Grand Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas. She was a member of South Burleson Baptist Church. She loved singing in the choir, traveling and family history.

Clarence Clay Golden

Clarence Clay Golden, age 92, formerly of Valley Mills, Texas passed away in Clifton, Texas, on February 14, 2016. A service celebrating his life will be 2 P.M. Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, at the Valley Mills First Baptist Church under the direction of Foss Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Interment will be in the Valley Mills Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Valley Mills or Lutheran Sunset Ministries, Clifton, Texas. Clarence was born to John & Emma Golden on September 7, 1923, near Clifton, Texas. He was a twin to Clarice Clyde Golden who died December 6, 1937. He grew up in the Norse Community and attended school in Norse, Meridian, and Valley Mills. At age 19, April 1943, Clarence entered the United States Army.
