Lenore Valentine Cox

Lenore Valentine Cox, 83, of Georgetown, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at Park Place Health Care Center in Georgetown. Graveside services were held Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015 at Clifton Memorial Park with Rev. Robert Rachuig officiating. Visitation was at Clifton Funeral Home in Clifton. On Nov. 28, 1932, Lenore was born in Lake Mohegan, New York to the late Ross and Lenore (Marsh) Valentine. After their deaths while still a young infant, she was adopted by her grandparents, the late Frank and Lillian Lent (Buchner) Valentine. She was a longtime resident of Georgetown and Clifton, where she was a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for Goodall-Witcher Hospital for many years. Following her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling. After years of working and being on call 24/7, she appreciated having the time to relax and visit Las Vegas and take an occasional cruise.

David Lee Hanlon, Sr.

David Lee Hanlon Sr., 45, of Valley Mills passed away Nov. 28, 2015 at Goodall-Witcher Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. David was born June 26, 1970 at St. Paul in Dallas, TX. He grew up in Duncanville and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1988. At the age of 17, he overcame a battle with T-cell lymphoma. He retired from the Texas Parks and Wildlife. David was a friend to everyone. He was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, bird watching and raising bees. He was a loving, caring husband and father, spending time with family and friends was very important to him. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Hanlon; father, Alvin Hanlon; brother, John Hanlon; sister, Lee Svrcek; Children, Courtni Fries, Michael Fries, Summer Fries, David Hanlon Jr.; grandchildren, Madylynn and Noah Fries. VERA BROWN SCOTT

Vera Brown Scott, 93, passed away Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, in Azle. The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at Baumgardner Funeral Home of Crowley. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Baumgardner Funeral Home. She was preceded in death by William Clark Scott. Survivor include a daughter, Judy Patino with husband, Robert; sister, Mary Ruth Temple; grandchildren, Amy Karr with husband, Troy, Paula Paschal with husband, Byron, Vicky Scruggs with husband, Chris, Stephen Patino with wife, Joanna, and Martin Patino with wife, Brittany; 17 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

Bobby George Golden

Bobby George Golden, of Groesbeck, passed away at his home on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at age 65. Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Groesbeck, with Dr. Tod Tanner and Rev. Clayton Griggs officiating. Music was provided by Charlyn Stacy, niece, accompanied by JoAnn Stone. Burial followed in the Thornton Cemetery with Jeff Hutcheon, nephew officiating. Pallbearers were Robert Ledlow, Garland Braune, Mike Williams, Johnny Wilson, Jim Hunter, and Ron Bates. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Wayne Golden, Joe Rosas, Ron Franks, and Jim Tubbs. Golden was born Jan. 28, 1950 in Meridian. At that time, his family was living on a ranch at Cranfills Gap, and they moved to Clifton when he was two years old. He graduated from Clifton High School in 1968. Although Bobby played all sports, football was a big part of his high school years.

Elsie King

Elsie King, 101, of Clifton passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015. A Graveside Service was held Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015 at the Kopperl Cemetery with Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. Elsie Day was born on Aug. 13, 1914 near Kopperl on the family farm. Elsie was the third child born to Ben and Bessie Billings Day. She grew up near Kopperl, and attended the Union Hill School in her early years and graduated from Kopperl High School. After graduation, she attended a beauty school. She met Robert “Bob” King in Kopperl, and after a brief courtship, they got married on Oct. 28, 1937. In the early years, the couple made their home in Kopperl. They moved to Louisiana with Bob’s job and lived there most of their young and middle adult years. Bob worked in the oil industry. One son John, was born in Rayne, LA. After John was raised, they took opportunities to travel and work overseas. They traveled with oil companies around the world.

Dixie Heath

Dixie Heath, 85, of Iredell passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015 at a local nursing home. A Funeral Service was held Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015 at First United Methodist Church of Iredell. Visitation was held prior to the service. Burial followed at Mitchell Cemetery in Iredell. Born June 4, 1930 in Arlington, Dixie was the daughter of Joe and Ruth (Bellamy) Kelly. Her family was one of the founding families of Arlington, where she grew up. In her youth she played softball, which led her to meet husband Royce Heath, they were united in marriage in 1947. She worked as an Administrative Secretary at UTA for over 25 years before retiring. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Iredell and an avid reader. Preceding her in death were her parents and a son, Bobby Heath.

Alta La Verne Scown Pearson

Alta La Verne Scown Pearson, age 94, died Oct. 30, 2015 at the Heckmann Residence in Clifton, Texas. Graveside services were held Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015 at the Andice Cemetery near Georgetown, Texas with Rev. Clint Hopson and Rev. Robert Boyce officiating. Alta La Verne Scown was born in Loraine, Texas on Jan. 21, 1921. She was the oldest of six children born to parents John Homer Scown & Treva Alice Compton Scown. La Verne is survived by her step-son Todd Pearson and wife Martha and ten nieces and nephews all of whom affectionately called her “Aunt Midge”. After attending school in Loraine, LA Verne moved with her family to Monahans, where she lived and worked for several years before moving to the Los Angeles, California area. La Verne loved gardening and always had a beautiful yard in the sunny, California climate. She never strayed far from her Texas roots and would come home every summer for a long visit, bringing with her a lovely tan and pictures of her gorgeous flowers.

Arthur (Fuggie) Pederson

Arthur (Fuggie) Pederson, 83, of Clifton passed away Tuesday, Nov.3, 2015 at Hillcrest Hospital in  Waco, due to complications of pneumonia. A Funeral Service was held Saturday, Nov. , 2015 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church at Norse. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial followed at Norse Cemetery. Arthur was born on April 5, 1932 to Pete Leonard and Belinda (Mickleson) Pederson, on the family farm about 12 miles west of Clifton in the Norse Community. He was the fourth child and second son of Pete and Belinda. He attended school at Norse, then later at Clifton. He helped his dad farm as his brother Milton was serving our Country, his big sister Lillian had to care for the family during these days as their mother was sick and being treated in the hospital in San Angelo, the kids had a lot of good memories of the farm days. Arthur was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Norse, where he has been a lifetime member.
