Cubs losing streak continues in district

As the Clifton Cub boys basketball squad heads into the home stretch, they struggled wrapping up the first round of District 19-3A competition and will be in an uphill struggle heading into the second half of the season. In fact, the Cubs dropped back-to-back games to Bruceville-Eddy and McGregor last week and face some must win situation as they open the second roud of distric this week.

Meridian boys, girls aim for playoffs

Coming up with a big win over a tough District 17-2A opponent could not have come at a better time for the Meridian Lady Jacket girls basketball team,. After all, the Lady Jackets wrapped up the first round of district play in a tie for third place behind Bosqueville and Crawford.

As the Texas whitetail deer hunting season came to an end last weekend, one might think illegal ativities and poaching in the great outdoors would calm down a bit. Clifton boys face important three-game stretch

The first round of District 19-3A competition has not been kind to the Clifton Cub boys basketball team. So as they head into the home stretch this week, the Cubs hope to finish the first round strong and regroup for a run in the second round. In fact, the next three games against Bruceville-Eddy, McGregor and Marlin will be critical in their hopes of fighting their way back into the district race.

Clifton girls wrap up first round

Lady Cubs make turn eyeing playoffs

As the Clifton Lady Cub girls basketball team wrapped up the first round of District 19-3A competition last week, they found themselves right where they wanted to be. Well, sort of. Although the Lady Cubs (3-4 in district, 15-10 overall) would prefer to be the frontrunners in the race for postseason berths, Clifton heads into the second round in a pack of five teams battling for two playoff spots with Marlin (6-1) and Teague (5-2) leading the way.

Lady Jackets sweep two straight district games

The Meridian Lady Jacket girls basketball team jumped right back to the front of the District 17-2A race with back-to-back wins last week. The Lady Jackets rallied to knock off Axtell, 35-27 last Tuesday before running away from Bosque County rival Valley Mills, 42-31, on the road last Friday.

Cub boys struggle in district contests

After snapping a losing streak at the Itasca Christmas Classic Dec. 28-30, the Clifton Cubs boys basketball squad returned to District 19-3A action last week. But after losing to Whitney, 75-49, at home last Tuesday, the Cubs were handed an 87-33 loss on the road at Teague last Friday night.

Lady Cubs split two games in District 19-3A competition

After returning from the holiday break with a solid performance at the Hillsboro Holiday Tournament, the Clifton Lady Cubs girls basketball team returned to District 19-3A action last week. And after knocking off Whitney at home last Tuesday, the Lady Cubs struggled on the road against Teague last Friday.

Jackets, Lady Jackets victorious after holidays

Staying home for the holidays proved to be just what the doctor ordered for the Meridian Yellowejacket boys basketball team. With returning starters Dallas Anderson and Clayton Pinkerton finally in the lineup together after missing the first part of the season due to injuries, the Jackets came back from a 14-day layoff to post an overwhelming 115-9 victory over Waco Harmony Science Academy in their District 17-2A opener last Saturday.
