Meridian runners come up short

Hensley misses state by five places on a muddy course in Huntsville

The Meridian Yellowjacket cross country team took experience and youth to the Class 2A Region III Cross County Championships Monday. Unfortunately for senior Latham Hensley and freshman Danny Cassidy, it proved to be the end of the road. But it proved to be a memorable day for both.

Lady Cubs take win over Marlin

On Tuesday, Oct. 20, the Lady Cubs beat the Marlin Lady Bulldogs in four games, 25-13; 25-14; 20- 25, and 25-9. Leading the Lady Cubs at the net were Hope Jenson with five aces, one kill; Tori Zander with five aces, three kills, seven digs; and Toshia Napieralski with seven kills, four aces, and one block.

Meridian runners shine at district

For Meridian senior Latham Hensley, every cross country race could be his last. And the way he’s been running this season, he doesn’t want it to end. Competing in the District 17-2A Cross Country Championships at the HOT soccer fields in Waco last Wednesday, Hensley ran a personal-best 17:34.1 on the three-mile course to capture the boys bronze medal and qualify for regionals for the four consecutive year.

Sweet Revenge

It may not have been cold, but revenge was a dish the Meridian Yellowjackets enjoyed serving up last Friday night. After having their playoff hopes dashed by the Dallas Gateway Charter Academy last season, the Jackets returned the favor with a convincing 51-26 victory in a key District 10-2A, Division II showdown at Jacket Stadium.

Clifton comeback downs Rogers

Although they didn’t come home with the win they wanted two weeks ago, the Clifton Cubs stuck their foot in the door of the District 10-3A, Division II race. Last Friday night in Rogers, the Cubs kicked the door down and made sure everyone knew they had arrived.

Fans of football past and present had plenty to cheer about on Homecoming night at Jacket Stadium last Friday. But for the Meridian Yellowjackets, it was strickly business as they looked to shake off a disappointing loss and get back in winning in the District 10-2A, Division II race.

Bosque County opens district races

Iredell looks impressive; Valley Mills, Kopperl, Morgan lose big

After a slow date on the schedule around Bosque County, all eight teams were in district play last week, although not every team look the field. With Cranfills Gap still unable to put six healthy players on the the field, the Walnut Springs Hornets notched their first district win by forfeit.

Lady Cubs win on Senior Night

Senior night sparked the Lady Cubs to take a quick three game win over Bruceville Eddy on Tuesday night at home. Seniors that were honored included Toshia Napieralski (1), Jessica Harris (3), Tori Zander (5), Kennadi Strawser (8), Elena Ibarra (12), and Susie Bekken (14). The team won in three exciting games, 25-19, 25-21, and 25-15.
