Cubs head into playoffs on winning note

Due to inclement weather, the Clifton Cubs and their hometown fans were forced to wait until the final game of the regular season to celebrate the 2015 homecoming. But last Friday night at Cub Stadium, it proved to be well worth the wait.

Meridian earns postseason berth

Despite losing their third consecutive games while dealing with a multitude of injuries, the Meridian Yellowjackets finally caught a break. Áfter coming up short in a valient effort to hand District 10-2A, Division II Hubbard it’s first league loss of the season, falling 48-30, the Yellowjackets checked the scoreboard to find out how the other district teams that had to lose did as well.

Bosque County in playoff chase

Going into the final weekend of the 2015 Texas high school football season, five of Bosque County’s eight school still have hopes of quallifying for the playoffs. But in the end, only four have a chance to advance. And for the time being, only one team can rest assured its season won’t come to an abrupt end this week.

Meridian sunk by Pirates, 33-6

To say the Meridian Yellowjackets have been knocked out of sync would be an understatement. But determining excatly what did it remains somewhat of a mystery. Could it be the inclement weather washing out a potential postseason clinching game against Dawson for three days, then forcing the Jackets to play back-to-back games in the same week? Or could it be that they played the last game and a half with four starters on the sideline with injuries.

Clifton hosts Dublin for homecoming Friday

Unfortunately for the Clifton Cubs last Saturday afternoon, they dominated the Marlin Bullldogs in every way except the scoreboard. But that didn’t keep the Cubs from battling until the final seconds of their District 10-3A, Division II showdown. In a rain-delayed game moved to Waco ISD Stadium, the Cubs spent the entire game doing everything but score against Marlin’s stingy defense.

Dawson Detour

Thanks to record-setting rain across Central Texas last weekend, the Meridian Yellowjackets were forced to postpone their District 10-2A, Division II road game against Dawson until Monday. But once the skies cleared enough to play the game, it kept raining on Meridian’s parade.

The Meridian Yellowjacket cross country team took experience and youth to the Class 2A Region III Cross County Championships Monday. Unfortunately for senior Latham Hensley and freshman Danny Cassidy, it proved to be the end of the road. But it proved to be a memorable day for both.

Lady Cubs take win over Marlin

On Tuesday, Oct. 20, the Lady Cubs beat the Marlin Lady Bulldogs in four games, 25-13; 25-14; 20- 25, and 25-9. Leading the Lady Cubs at the net were Hope Jenson with five aces, one kill; Tori Zander with five aces, three kills, seven digs; and Toshia Napieralski with seven kills, four aces, and one block.
