Clifton softball falls to Teague

After the inclement weather put a damper on their season for a week, the Clifton Lady Cub softball team suffered their first District 19-3A loss in a make-up game against Teague Monday. After posting four runs in the fourth, Teague again scored four in the fifth to take control of the game on their way to a 10-0 victory over Clifton.

After postponement, Jackets sting Hico, 16-8

By Brett Voss After getting a week off during Spring Break and seeing their District 14-2A opener postponed due to weather, the Meridian Yellowjacket baseball club finally got back on the field. And once it was all said and done, the layoffpaid off. Pitchers from both teams had a rough day, but Jacket hitters feasted on Hico as Meridian slugged its way to a convincing 16-8 victory over the Tigers Monday afternoon. Jackets, Lady Jackets end two-week layoff in Valley Mills Saturday

Now its time to hit the track running, After the Meridian boys and girls track and field teams opened the 2016 season at the Bosqueville High School Meet two weeks ago, both squads took Spring Break off. With their next meet in Valley Mills this Saturday, the Jackets and Lady Jackets will be out of action over two weeks. But certainly, both teams got off to an encouraging start in Bosqueville.

Cubs reload with youth movement

After opening the season by going undefeated in the McGregor Tournament, the Clifton Cub baseball team advanced to the chmpionship game of the Roger Tournament last weekend before suffering its first

loss of the season.

Wright named to first-team squad

Although the Meridian Yellowjacket boys basketball squad missed the Class 2A postseason, they were rewarded for coming close. Meridian junior Tyler Wright was selected to the all-District 17-2A first team and junior Clayton Pinkerton made the second team, while senior Ethan Hightower, junior Dallas Anderson and sophomore John Anderson were honorable mentions.

Lady Jackets place three on all-district first-team

After advancing to the Class 2A girls basketball playoffs for the second consecutive season, the Meridian Lady Jackets were rewarded for their efforts. Meridian seniors Ashlee Hooks, Sydney Purcell and Krista Warren were selected to the all-District 17-2A first team, juniors Abby Stauffer and Carson Gebhardt made the second team, while senior Eden Carson, junior Natalee Rowland and sophomores Selina Reynoso and Emma Hooks were honorable mentions.

Clifton boys hoops end rough season on road

Despite producing one of their finest quarters or the season, it wasn’t enough for the Clifton boys basketball team to pull out their first District 19-3A victory in the season finale last Friday. Playing hard to the final buzzer, the Cubs scored 28 fourth quarter points but still fell short in a 68-55 loss to McGregor.

Cubs baseball set to open season

Coming off back-to-back trips to the Class 3A regional quarterfinals, the Clifton Cub baseball team expects to make it three in a row, if not then some. But after graduating nine seniors from last year’s 20-6-2 squad, the Cubs will need to reload around a core group of four returning starters when the open the 2016 Texas high school baseball season at the McGregor Tournament this Thursday- Saturday.
