Lindy Rex Powell, Jr., 57, of Meridian, passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors with Jonathon Ford officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., on Thursday, Jan. 2 at the funeral home. Mr. Powell was born on April 5, 1956 in Macomb, Illinois to Lindy and Ann Marie McGrann Powell. He graduated from Macomb High School in 1974 and McLennan Community College with an Associate in Applied Science in Business Management in 1997 with High Honors. While in college he was employed in residential and commercial construction. After graduation he worked in the Engineering Service Department at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center later becoming the Assistant Director/Manager. He worked for Waco ISD as Coordinator of Maintenance and had fulfilled the responsibilities of the Director of Facilities. He worked at Pevco Systems International, Inc. as Account Executive and was employed at Providence Healthcare Network as Director of Facilities. Powell married Pamela Denise Chatman on April 20, 1979 and she passed away on March 29, 2006. He married Karen Howard Litteken on Dec. 13, 2008 in Waco. He loved to fish, cook, dance, play pool, his dogs, Diesel, Haysley and Cloe but his true love was his family. Survivors include his wife, Karen Genise Powell of Meridian; son, Lindy Rex (Trey) Powell, III and his wife, Sarai of Waco; daughter, Nikki Dione Rogers and her husband, Marcus of Desoto; stepchildren, Charlie Donnell Shaw and his wife, Anna of Waco, Christopher Darrell Shaw of Waco, Reginald Dwayne Shaw and his wife, Lottie of Waco, Jason Colt Litteken of Meridian and Cody Wyatt Litteken of Meridian; siblings, Tom Derry and his wife, Natalie of Polo Alto, CA, Rose Marie Powell of Bloomington, IL and David Powell and his wife, Julie of Macomb, IL; grandchildren, Mya and Marlee Rogers, Keannan Booker, Zakaree, Charlee, Amaya and Samuel Shaw, Mariah Shaw, Nehemiah Shaw and future baby Powell and a host of, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
