Funeral services for Roselyn Virginia Bowden, 93, of Clifton, were held Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco. Roselyn Stafford was born on June 2, 1921, to Lou Ethal and Edwin G. Stafford in Ardmore OK. She passed away on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014. Due to the effects of the Great Depression, her family moved to McCamey TX in 1930. She graduated from McCamey High School and attended Hardin Simmons University for one year. She met the love of her life, James Lloyd Bowden at church and they eloped on June 8, 1940. They lived in McCamey until 1960, when they moved to Denver City. For 23 years she served as the secrtary for the Denver City ISD. After she and Lloyd retired, they moved to Waco to be close to their son, James Bowden. She relocated to Clifton after the death of Lloyd in 1995. In addition to her secretarial skills, Roselyn was a gifted musician, serving as pianist and organist at the churches of which they were members. She also loved playing the accordion. Her faith always played a major role in her life, and she tried to make the Bible her guide. She enjoyed her life as a homemaker and was an excellent cook in addition to her skills of knitting, crochet and embroidery. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling with friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Lloyd, and a brother, Edwin Stafford. Survivors include her sons, James Alan Bowden and wife, Rita of Cranfills Gap, and Ronald Ray Bowden of Austin; grandchildren, Angela Gloff and husband, Greg; Cami Grissom and husband, Scott; Alan Bowden and wife, Dana; Amy Weardon and husband, James; Brian Bowden; and 10 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Alan Bowden, Brian Bowden, Greg Gloff, Benjamin Gloff, Zachary Gloff, Scott Grissom, and James Wearden. Memorials may be made to the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Ministries, 413 Sunset Street, Clifton TX 76634 or to First Baptist Church in Clifton. Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
