Cubs aims for district title

Despite not playing last week with their second open date of the season, the Clifton Cubs clinched a berth into the Class 3A, Division II playoffs for the fourth consecutive season with a little help from their district counterparts.

In fact, by virtue of Corsicana Mildred’s 35-14 victory over Blooming Grove last Friday night, all four of District 11-3A, DII’s postseason qualifiers were decided, leaving Mildred, Rio Vista and Blloming Grove battling the Cubs for the league championship and playoff seeding spots during the final two weeks of the regular season.

“Yes, we have clinched a playoff spot,” Clifton head coach Chuck Caniford said. “But all that really means for us is that we’ve met the first level of our expectations. For us, the playoffs are not a goal. That is something that we expect every year. Now we have to try to put ourselves in the best possible position we can be in heading into the playoffs.
