As a part of the Meridian Park master plan, connecting the park to the rest of the town is an important aspect. And connecting means analyzing the walkability – a measure of how friendly an area is to walking with safe, well visible, walk ways and curbs - in town.

A group of interested citizens participated in a walk analysis Nov. 1 led by Recreation, Park, and Tourism Sciences Department with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Urban and Municipal Parks development’s Dr. Jamie Rae Walker. Also present were two representatives of Waco’s Texas Department of Transportation.

Walkability has health, environmental, and economic benefits and parks and walkability just go together according to Walker –adding parks and open spaces and improving walkability at the same time creates something that has more value than the sum of its parts.
