Primary elections set the stage for things to come.

Although only two of the 11 Republican primary elections that directly involved Bosque County were contested, and none on the Democratic ballot, those two races appeared to have the county divided. But once the polls closed and the ballots counted, the voters were clear and decisive.

In the contested Republican primary for County Commissioner Precinct 2 seat that will be vacated by the retiring Durwood Koonsman, candidate Terry W. Townley ran away with the race by drawing 51 percent of the vote, while challenger John Campbell, the Bosque County Jail Administrator, gathered 26 percent and former Meridian Mayor Pro-Tem Weldon Hamilton collected 23 percent.
