Caroline Braune Miller

Caroline (Braune) Miller, 91, of Clifton passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017, at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Clifton Cemetery.

Caroline was born on July 10, 1926 to Carl and Alma (Bernhardt) Braune. She was the youngest of five children, with two brothers and two sisters. The first six years of her life were spent in Cotulla, near San Antonio, and later in Rogers. The family returned to Bosque County, settling in the Chase Community and then Womack. In 1944, she graduated from Clifton High School. In her youth, she helped her father with his threshing and black-smithing. She enjoyed playing card games and fishing with her mother in her spare time.

On November 27, 1947 she and Norbert Miller were united in marriage at the Womack Church. Their union would produce three children. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, her parents and her siblings.

Morris L. Wallace

Morris L. Wallace Sr., 94, of Clifton passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Goodall-Witcher Hospital. Funeral services were held January 20, 2017 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial at Clifton Memorial Park.

Morris was born on May 31, 1922 in Clifton to Melvin and Roby (Standefer) Wallace. He was one of four children born to this family. He grew up in the Clifton area on the family farm. He attended the Cooper Country School, graduated from Clifton High School, attended Clifton Jr. College where he played basketball, the sport he loved. Morris was a member of the Texas National Guard prior to WWII. He later joined the US Navy for service during WWII. He served on the destroyer, USS Kendrick, from 1943-1945. His service was in the north Atlantic, Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean.

Melodie B. Smith

Melodie B. Smith, age 67, of Cranfills Gap passed away Sunday morning in Stephenville. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 27, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Clifton with Dr. Jerry Smith and Rev. Mary Gean Cope officiating. Burial will follow at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery at Norse. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Thursday, at Clifton Funeral Home. Melodie was born October 27, 1949 in Lubbock to Ross Jackson and Lucy Pearl (Nix) Brock. She was a 1968 graduate of Springlake-Earth High School. On June 6, 1970, Melodie was united in marriage to Richard Earl Smith and he preceded her in death on February 7, 1996. She later received her Bachelors degree in Education from Tarleton State University in May 1991. That fall, she began her career with Clifton ISD teaching kindergarten. Currently, she taught in the special education department, where she had been for the past 26 years.

Elizabeth Moore McMath

Elizabeth Moore McMath, 86, passed away January 19, 2017 in Dallas. She was born Feb 20, 1930 in Iredell, Texas, to Fred William and Elizabeth Carol (Smith) Moore and later married Charles Wallis McMath on Jan. 16, 1978. St. Andrew Presbyterian Church was where she attended.

Elizabeth earned her BA and BS in Advertising Design at Texas Woman’s University in Denton in 1951; and was a graduate gemologist at the Gemology Institute of America in L.A. in 1977. Pursuing her graphic artist dreams, she worked as layout artist at Leonard’s Dept. Store in Fort Worth, 1951-52; as artist/bookkeeper at Bud Biggs Studio in Dallas, 1953; as secretary/artist at Squire Haskins Studio in Dallas, 1953-54; as artist/art director at Dowdell-Merrill, Inc. in Dallas, 1954-58; and owner/artist at Moore Co. in Dallas, 1958-’90.

Carlton Knudson

Carlton Knudson, 29, of Waco, went to his heavenly home Wednesday, January 11, 2017. Visitation with his family was Friday, January 20, at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend, in Waco. A memorial service was held Saturday, January 21, in the chapel of Lake Shore Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Vaughan officiating.

Carlton was born June 5, 1987 in San Antonio to Conrad Knudson and Devan Attaway Knudson. Growing up in Sweetwater, he moved with his family to Waco in 2002. He graduated from China Spring High School in 2005. Carlton was loved by all who met him. He had a heart bigger than Texas. He was a loving son, brother, grandson, uncle, father and friend! After his time as a US Marine, he held jobs at Central Texas Path Labs and West End. At the time of his death, he was caregiver to his paternal grandmother.

David Stallard

David Stallard went home to Jesus on Jan. 13, 2017, after 91 years on this Earth.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Friday (July 20) at Clifton Funeral Home, with services at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Pastors Eddie Booth and Rusty Penney will officiate.

David was born June 26, 1925, the ninth of 10 children in a struggling farm family in the Appalachian Mountains of southwest Virginia. His earliest memories included going trapping with his mother to provide food in the Depression. His love of the outdoors endured, and he fished and hunted the rest of his life.

Early on, he saw the military as the path out of poverty. He lied about his age to enter a military program in Virginia but was found out weeks later and sent home. Then came World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater, including Saipan, in the Army Air Force.

Janice Diane Turner

Janice Diane Turner, age 66 of Meridian, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017, in Clifton, after a decades-long battle with diabetes.

Funeral services were Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the Clifton Church of Christ with minister Steve Countryman officiating. Burial was in the Meridian Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jared Cosper, Casey Cosper, Jeremy Leverett, Mike St. Clair, Wilford Don Roberts, and Charles Grady Roberts.

Janice was born in Beaumont, Texas on June 10, 1950 to Edwin James and Mary Jo Betts. She was the oldest of three children. Growing up in a military family, she lived in many places including Beaumont, Meridian, Everman, Fort Worth, Alamogordo, New Mexico, Wichita, Kansas, Dallas, and even a stint in Wurzburg, Germany while her father was stationed abroad following World War II.

Roy E. Vick

Roy E. Vick, 96, of Waco passed away at Ridgecrest Retirement and Healthcare on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Clifton Funeral Home. Burial at Clifton Memorial Park.

Roy E. Vick was born on August 30, 1921 to Johnnie Willie Vick and Linnie Lorene (Harmon) Vick in Wylie, Texas. The son of a sharecropper and farmer, he relocated frequently during his youth throughout the South Texas and Gulf Coast regions of Texas. When he was sixteen years old, his father died leaving Roy, the oldest son, to continue the farming duties of his father, while going to school. After graduating from high school, he, his mother and his brothers and sisters relocated to a farm east of El Campo, Texas.

Theogene Luke Lavergne

Theogene Luke “T. L.” Lavergne, 93, of Clifton passed away Friday, December 30, 2016, at Goodall-Witcher Hospital. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements were under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.

T. L. was born October 8, 1923, in Church Point, LA to Joseph Austin and Edna Marie (Boudreaux) Lavergne. He grew up and graduated high school in Church Point. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany near the end of World War II. Upon his return from the service, he moved to Washington State where he went to work for the civil service. He later worked for the Santa Fe Railroad until his retirement. For the past 25 years, he had made Clifton his home.

Moises Aaron Serrano

Moises Aaron Serrano age 5, of Meridian, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at his residence with his loving family by his side.

Funeral services were Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the First United Pentecostal Church in Meridian. Bro. Phil Murphy, Bro. Raymond D. Sims, Bro. Theo Heartsill, and Bro. James Webb will officiate. Burial was at the Morgan Cemetery in Morgan, Texas. Visitation was Friday, January 6, 2017 at the First United Pentecostal Church in Meridian. Serving as pallbearers were Diego Duran, Jose Martinez, Fernando Duran, Jarron Sims, Jersain Duran, Anthony Serrano, Gavin Sims, and Jonathan Serrano.
