Lynn Jean Foster

Lynn Jean Foster passed away on February 1, 2017 in the Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton, Texas. He was born February 23, 1928 in San Benito, Texas to Nople C. Foster and Ressie Marie Wilkinson Foster.

Lynn’s family moved to San Antonio and lived there for several years, in 1943 they purchased property in Bosque County, just west of Meridian. Lynn had two more years of high school, graduating in 1945. He then entered John Tarlton College in Stephenville, Tx with the ROTC program he became interested in flying, that was his dream.

Lynn married Peggy Joyce “Buddy” Hall on June 30, 1950 They lived in San Antonio during that time ,they were members of a Christian Church and Lynn was a sponsor for the young Boys and Girls in the church, and enjoyed being involved with them. Later they moved out to the south of San Antonio, built a house, airstrip and office space for a new Aviation Insurance Business that he started. He later on went to Houston into a new business.

Sue Williams Burns

Sue Williams Burns age 79, of Kopperl, passed away early Wednesday morning, February 8, 2017 in a Wylie, Texas nursing facility.

Funeral services were 3 P.M., Monday, Feb. 13 at the Kopperl First Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Tom Henderson and Rev. Michael Martin officiated. Burial was at the Kopperl Cemetery in Kopperl. Visitation was from 5-7 P.M., Feb. 12 at Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian. Serving as pallbearers were Eugene Day, Patrick Christian, Jacob Christian, Nicholas Christian, Justin Burns, Terry Burns, Jonathan Burns, and Jeremy Burns. Honorary pallbearer will be Matthew North.

Sue Williams was born on February 13, 1937 in Lamb County, Texas to Sherrill Densmore and Emma Bertha Whitehorn Williams. After high school, Sue received her cosmetology license and furthered her education to teach cosmetology, even training and modeling hair design in Europe with her cosmetology instructor.

Charlie Derrell Nichols

Charlie Derrell Nichols, 74, of Stonewall, OK went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 3, 2017. Charlie was born March 7, 1942 in Meridian, Texas to Otis Earl “Jack” Nichols and Nellie Elizabeth Paulson Nichols.

He graduated from Meridian High School in 1960 where he was active in athletics playing Football, Basketball, Baseball and running Track. After graduation Charlie joined the Texas National Guard and served for nine years.

On September 28, 1961 Charlie met the love of his life Bobbie Rae Morris when he followed her school bus as it passed through the Meridian town square after a football game. In the summer of 1962 Bobbie moved to Valliant, Oklahoma with her family and Charlie faithfully made the trip every weekend to see her. The couple married two weeks after her high school graduation on June 15, 1963 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Danny Ray Ivey

Danny Ray Ivey, 70, of Clifton passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017 at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at Boggy Cemetery, Cranfills Gap. Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 P.M. Friday, Feb. 3, 2017 at Clifton Funeral Home.

Danny Ray Ivey was born January 28, 1947 in Lampasas, Texas to Bart Leon & Nettie Elizabeth (Ratliff ) Ivey.

On October 1, 1966 Danny married the love of his life, Janey Finstad. To the union they welcomed two sons, Darrell Ray and Duane Robbie. Danny attended Cranfills Gap High School and served in the National Guard before he started his career in printing at The Clifton Record. He later opened his own print shop, Commercial Printing, in downtown Clifton. After providing print services for Bosque County for 43 years, he and Janey retired passing the business to their sons.

Rachel Burney Barnett Carter

Rachel Burney Barnett Carter, age 87, of Katy and formerly of Morgan, Texas passed away on January 30, 2017 in Katy, Texas.

Graveside services were held Friday, February 3, 2017, at Smith Bend-Coon Creek Cemetery. Bro. Bill Barnett officiated at the service.

Rachel Burney was born on November 16, 1929 at her home outside of Meridian, Texas to Lawrence L. and Lillie Mae Wright Burney. She attended and graduated from Morgan High School. After high school she moved to Fort Worth where she raised her children. She then remarried and moved to Houston where she resided for 15 years before returning back to Morgan. For the past eleven years Mrs. Carter resided in Waco. Mrs. Carter was a secretary, working in the insurance business for 30 years in many different places. In her free time she loved to sew and read. She will be truly missed by all.

Priscilla Martin, age 93, of Gatesville passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Jim Hall officiating. Burial followed at Turnersville Cemetery.

William Joseph Roper

William Joseph Roper, 62, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 29, 2017 with his loving wife, Esther Roper, at his side. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, February 3, 2017, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Clifton. Burial followed at Clifton Memorial Park. Escort services to the graveside will be provided by the Free Masons Motorcycle Riding Club. Visitation was Thursday, February 2, at Clifton Funeral Home with Rosary recited.

William was born August 7, 1954 in Clifton to Mack and Frances Roper. He grew up with one brother, Ben Roper, and one sister, Joan Roper. William attended Clifton High School and graduated in 1972. William and Esther Coates were united in marriage on September 14, 1991 in Laguna Park, and recently celebrated 25 years together.

Billy Ray Wise

Billy Ray Wise, 86, of Clifton passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017, at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, February 9, 2017, at Clifton Funeral Home with Chaplain Dave Anfenson officiating.

Billy was born March 5, 1930, in Clifton, to Felix and Bessie (Ledlow) Wise. Following his graduation from Mosheim High School, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served for 30 years. Stationed mostly in San Diego, his career took him all over the world. On February 28, 1978, he retired as Master Chief Petty Officer. Following his time in the Navy, he worked for the civil service administration in aviation electronics. In 1999, he returned to Clifton.

Thursday, February 2nd with a rosary service starting at7:00 P.M. at Clifton Funeral Home.

Maradelle C. Langseth Helton DeWitt

Maradelle C. Langseth Helton DeWitt, 90, passed away on Thursday, January 26th, 2017 in Clifton. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 31st at 2:30 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, with graveside services to follow at Trinity Cemetery. Pastor Clayton McCord will officiate the ceremony.

Maradelle was born on December 18th, 1926 in DeLeon, Texas. She was athletic in school and a cheerleader at Clifton High. She was also creative, studying art at Clifton College. She married Garland Helton, an army sergeant, on June 1st, 1946. After moving to Austin, Maradelle began working for the Texas Department of Public Safety in Statistics, and spent many years as a homemaker. After the passing of her first husband, she met Charles DeWitt of San Antonio, a federal railroad inspector. They married on January 2nd, 1977. Together, they spent their retirement years criss-crossing America as active members of the Airstream trailer club.
