Robert Hanes

Robert “Bob” Hanes, 82, of Clifton passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016, at Clifton Nursing and Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, November 3, 2016, in the Clifton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at 1:30 PM at Greenwood Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at Clifton Funeral Home. Born on December 17, 1933, Bob was the son of Morris and Irene (Miller) Hanes. He served in the U. S. Army from 1957-59. Following the service, he worked as a postal carrier in Oklahoma City, OK for many years. At the early age of thirteen, he began playing golf which became his cherished hobby over the years. In his spare time, he also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and loved to listen to big band music and music from the 50’s and 60’s. A very loving, caring, and honest man, you always knew where Bob stood on an issue. He was of the Baptist faith. Bob was preceded in death by his parents.

Isla Ruth Ray

Isla Ruth Ray was born on December 8, 1926 in Cranfills Gap, Texas. She was one of three children born to George Forrest Ray and Mary Reierson Ray. She grew up in Bosque County and graduated from Clifton High School in 1945. She attended Clifton College prior to her marriage to Clifford Dyer. The couple was married on December 8, 1946. To this union were born three sons, Cliff, Edwin , and Bobby. She worked for many years as a daycare worker and also as a devoted housewife. Her husband was a mechanic most of his adult life. Her home was always open to her sons’ friends and she became a second mother to many of them because she treated them like family. She became a member of First Baptist in 1961 and worked in a variety of places in the church through the years. In recent years, she was an active member of the Esther Sunday School Class and was involved with her class in ministry projects and fellowships. She will be remembered for her gracious, kind, and humble spirit.

Marie Elizabeth Colby Shelton

Marie Elizabeth Colby Shelton, age 49, of Meridian passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 in Meridian, Texas. Funeral services were at 1:00 P.M., Monday, November 7, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Clifton, Texas with Dr. Jerry Smith officiated. Visitation was from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian.Pallbearers were Stephen Colby, Justin Owens, Bobby Richards, Mike Chovanec, Todd Hyatt, and Rosie Zapata. Honorary Pallbearers were Joe Chovanec and Ronny Owens. Marie Elizabeth Colby was born on October 21, 1967 in Garden Grove, California to Leo E. and Mary Lou Dickson Colby. She was raised and graduated school in Apple Valley, California. While in high school she played in the band, volleyball, basketball, and ran track. She received a full scholarship for volleyball to Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. Marie has lived in California, Arizona, Kansas, Georgia, Colorado, and Texas.

Elsie Ann Jennings

Elsie Ann Jennings passed away Oct. 29, 2016 at her home in Eden Hill Communities in New Braunfels, Texas. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 5, 2016 at First United Methodist Church, Clifton, TX. Visitation was Friday, November 4, 2016 at Clifton Funeral Home. Burial at Clifton Memorial Park. She was born Jan. 2, 1915 on a farm near Coryell City, Texas. She lived 101 years, 9 months and 27 days before passing peacefully. She was the 3rd of 8 children born to Ernest and Anne Symank. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Coryell City and finished her public education at Gatesville High School before going to Kings Daughters Hospital in Temple for Nurses Training. After completing her training she went to San Angelo Texas where she met Marion Dewey Jennings who she married in 1938. She worked at the Clinic Hospital before becoming the Office Nurse for Dr. Charles Englkng until her retirement in 1976.

Billie Joe Fouts

Billie Joe “BJ” Fouts age 95 of Iredell, TX passed away November 4, 2016in the Clifton Hospital. Services were held 3:pm. Monday, November 7 at the Iredell Baptist Church, followed by graveside services at Mitchell Cemetery. BJ was born July 26, 1921 to QA and Grace Harris Fouts. BJ married Jewel McDonel on December 25, 1940. BJ was a lifelong resident of Iredell. He temporally resided in Dallas- Fort Worth area prior to WWII and California before deploying to the Pacific Theater during the war a a seaman aboard the U.S.S. Napa assault ship where he participated in several campaigns including the February 1945 land of the Marines on the island of Iwo Jima where he served as crewman of one of the Napa’s landing craft. BJ owned and operated the Fouts Grocery in Iredell for several years until the business was lost to fire in 1965.

Gaylia Burks Hanna

Gaylia Burks Hanna age 88, of Meridian passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 in Waco, Texas. Funeral services were Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Meridian. Visitation was Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at the Meridian Cemetery. Rev. Ken Shaddox officiated. Pallbearers were Ron Hanna, Jr., John Hanna, Tripp McKay, Darin Moulton, Jack Burks, III, and Brian Belt. Gaylia Burks was born on September 23, 1928 in Waco, Texas to Floyd W. and Johnnie Bell Arrowood Burks. She graduated from McGregor High School. After graduation she attended the 4C business college in Waco, Texas. She married Alton Lloyd Hanna on February 14, 1948 in Waco, Texas. She loved to read, sew, and help others no matter the situation. Gaylia made Meridian her home in 1974 after moving from Dallas. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Ocee. She is survived by her son, Ronald Hanna, Sr.

Opal Cochran

Opal Cochran, 82, of Laguna Park, passed away on October 21, 2016. A graveside service under the direction of Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney, was held Monday, October 24, 2016 at China Spring Cemetery in China Spring, with Mr. Harrell Wilson officiating. A visitation was held Sunday, October 23, 2016, at the funeral home. Opal was born on February 27, 1934, in Dallas, to Jessie and Geneva (Donica) Robertson. She married Brooks Cochran on August 8 1976. They loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and boating. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Family was very special to her. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a son. Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Weir and husband, Bobby Weir, Jr, of Whitney and Brenda Wise and husband, John Wise of Missouri; grandchildren, Keith W. Weir and wife, Brandi, Kayla R.

Margie Ann Wolf

Margie Ann (Merkel) Wolf, 78, of Clifton, Texas passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016. There was a visitation only on Saturday, October 22 at the First United Methodist fellowship hall only. She was born to Lillian (Lampert) and Urban Merkel in Jasper, Indiana on October 26, 1937. She graduated from Jasper High School in 1955. She married Richard Wolf and due to his work they moved around a lot to several states and while they were in Pennsylvania they had their first child Dawn (Wolf) Underwood. From there they moved to Douglas, Georgia and had their two sons Dru Wolf and Darrell Wolf. She was a stay at home mom until they were all in school and then she went to school to become a LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse). After graduating nursing school the family moved to Marlin, Texas. Margie loved being a nurse and helping people. She was the first night nurse at Clifton Nursing Home when it was established.

Ruby Waldine Boswell

Ruby Waldine Boswell, 93, of Angleton, Texas passed away one day shy of her 94th birthday in Lake Jackson, Texas with her family by her side. She was born on October 16, 1922 in Jonesboro, Texas to Robert Lee and Minnie Louise (Farquhar) Whisenhunt. Services were Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, Texas. There will be a second service scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, October 19, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Turnersville Community Center located at 8115 FM 182 Gatesville, Texas. The family welcomes friends for a time of visitation starting at 12:00 until services time. Burial will immediately follow in the Turnersville Cemetery. Left to cherish the memory of Waldine is her husband of 72 years, Charlie Ray Boswell, her children; Charlie Wayne Boswell, and Monta Cothron (husband, W.A.

John Robert Cunningham

John Robert “Bobby” Cunningham, age 56, of Meridian, passed away suddenly on October 10, 2016 in Clifton, Texas. Memorial services were held Monday, October 17, 2016 at the Bosque County Cowboy Church on SH# 6 between Meridian and Clifton with Pastor Tater Paschal officiating. John Robert Cunningham was born on April 24, 1960 in Angleton, Texas to Marvin Elton and Toy Strawn Cunningham. He graduated from Angleton High School. After graduation he attended a junior college in Angleton. Bobby made Meridian his home 25 years ago. He married Frankie Lynn Jones on April 26, 2008 at the Loafers Bend West Park in Whitney, Texas. Bobby worked for Double B in Meridian as a Forklift Operator. He was a devoted member of the Bosque County Cowboy Church.
