Clifton falls to Maypearl in overtime

By Brett Voss

Often times, Texas high school football coaches aren’t sure just how difficult their schedules might be until the season starts to take shape. Regardless, Clifton’s third-year head coach Chuck Caniford always does his best to build a difficult non-district schedule to make his Cubs battle-tested by the time district play begins. But this season’s schedule has proven to be even more difficult than expected.

Bosque County still struggling

By Brett Voss

To say wins have been hard to come by for Bosque County high school football teams would be an understatement. Three weeks into the season, the eight area schools have combined to post eight total victories. Only Valley Mills and Morgan own winning records, and two teams -- Clifton and Cranfills Gap -- will enter this week’s slate of games looking for their first win of the season. Combined, Bosque County teams have posted an 8-16 win-loss record.

Just when it started looking like another game, if not the entire season, was slipping away, the Meridian Yellowjackets found the magic they were looking for to carry them through the 2016 season. On the strength of three big plays on offense and forcing three turnovers on defense, the Jackets came from behind not once, but twice to slip by the Riesel Indians in dramatic fashion, 24-20, last Friday night.

Jackets drop opener at Waco Reicher

By Brett Voss

Certainly, it wasn’t the start to the 2016 Texas high school football season they had hoped to achieve. After opening last season with four consecutive victories for the first time in more than a decade, the Meridian Yellowjackets found out just how tough their non-district schedule loaded with new opponents could be as the Waco Reicher Catholic Cougars rolled to an impressive 48-0 win over the Jackets last Friday night.
