Jackets rebound, beat Hamilton

Meridian baseball faces Crawford, Moody

By Brett Voss

Coming off a hard-fought loss to perennial powerhouse Bosqueville, the Meridian Yellowjacket baseball team rebounded with a solid 6-3 win over Hamilton last Friday night.

Jason Dashner and John Anderson combined on the mound to hold Hamilton in check after falling behind, 2-0, early. Then the Jacket offense, led by Bradley Wallace and Matt Rosas, rallied behind a 13-hit attack.

“We got off to a shaky start against Hamilton, but we fought back and played very well after the second inning,” Meridian baseball head coach Ryan Moreau said. “Dashner found his rhythm on the mound and was tough to hit after the second inning. John did a good job of coming in and closing the game.

“This group of girls continues to push through innings focusing on one inning at a time and staying in the present,” Clifton softball head coach Sam Canfield said. “They have set a strong foundation for us to build on for our district games.

Lady Cubs wrap season

Clifton girls fall in finale to Groesbeck

By Brett Voss

Although the 2016-17 Texas high school girls basketball did not turn out quite like they had hoped, the Clifton Lady Cubs saw several seniors rise to the occasion while some young players showed promise for the future.

Even while playing without sophomore sensation Sydney Harris since the holiday break due to a season-ending injury, the Lady Cubs stayed in the District 19-3A playoff chase until late in the season. But while Clifton refused to give in, the Lady Cubs could not find a way to win some close games down the stretch.

When going through a rough season, some teams find themselves forced to look for silver linings rather than the win column. But for the Clifton Cub boys basketball team, they found themselves staring at both last week.
