Rolland W. Baker
Rolland W. (R.W.) Baker passed away, with his wife by his side, on Aug. 2, 2018 from an aggressive form of leukemia. He will be cremated at his request. A Celebration of His Life will be held Saturday, Aug. 25 from 2 - 4:30 p.m. at the Clifton Classic Chassis Auto Museum. This venue was chosen because of R.W.’s love of classic cars, and especially because his beloved 1962 red Austin Healey is on loan to and currently on display at the museum. Arrangements by Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
Born on July 20, 1938 in Kankakee County, Il, to James Baker and Elsie Fortner Baker, he grew up in northeast Missouri. In his youth he served in the U.S. Navy as a military aviation photographer based in Pearl Harbor, followed by two years as a newspaper photographer journalist. He received his law degree from Mercer University School of Law in Macon, GA and practiced as a corporate real estate attorney. His primary career for over two and a half decades has been as a consultant and writer. Prior to retirement he was co-owner with his wife of a health care consulting company. He is also co-author with his wife of a health care finance textbook that is currently in its fifth edition.
His twin passions were traveling and classic cars, preferably “British iron.” Truly one of a kind, he traveled the globe, always looking forward, never looking back.
He is survived by Judith, his wife of 57 years, nephew Tom Schroder (Teresa), niece Peggy Schroder Hansen, nephew Troy Moore (Kathy), brothers-in-law Gayle Oller (Linda H.) and Howard Oller (Linda C.) and sisters-in-law Sandra Oller Moore (Roger) and Eva Oller Gotz (Gerry), as well as good friends – you know who you are.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Bosque Arts Center, the Bosque Museum and/or Lutheran Sunset Ministries.
