Gloria Martin Hewlett

Dr. Gloria Martin Hewlett Ed. D.of Dallas TX, passed Friday, Feb. 22 at age 88. She was a native of Bosque County, the only daughter of Dock and Leona Martin of Meridian TX.

Born in 1930 in Clifton Texas, she and her parents moved to Meridian where she grew up. She received degrees from Tarleton College, University of Corpus Christi, Northwestern State University and East Texas State University. She was a public school teacher in Louisiana and Texas for 28 years.

After retiring from teaching, she was active in the Dallas Retired Teachers Association, American Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Society, as well as other clubs and organizations.

Heritage and history were very important to her and Gloria was the author of ‘WWII Veterans of Bosque County’. Education was also very dear to her heart and Gloria sponsored several students at Tarleton as well as assisting past students.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Robert E. Hewlett ll. She is survived by her sons Robert (Bobby) E Hewlett Ill and his wife Tracy and Jeffrey Martin Hewlett and his wife Grace, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 4 at the Lawson Funeral Home, 803 Main Street in Meridian, TX. A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5 in the Clifton Cemetery with Rv. Clint Schofield officiating.
