When it was all said and done, the Clifton Cubs got exactly what they asked for in the 2021 Texas high school season opener. After all, playing playoff-caliber teams like Class 2A, DI’s Bosqueville Bulldogs in a non-district matchup has always been Clifton’s approach to getting ready for district under the direction of veteran head coach Chuck Caniford.

Just when we all expected a return to normalcy, it felt like deja vu all over again as the 2021 Texas high school football season began when two of the five slated Bosque County sixman games were cancelled due to COVID protocols last week.

Producing a mixed bag of results while playing seven matches last week, the Clifton Lady Cub volleyball squad continues to gain experience and build momentum as they navigate through the pre-season schedule in preparation for the tough District 17-13A race that lies ahead.

Winning isn’t everything, but it sure feels good. Just ask the Meridian Lady Jacket volleyball team.

MERIDIAN – For the Meridian Lady Jacket volleyball program, it proved to be a winning season in 2020 by just stepping out onto the court to play a match for the first time in 41 years. But under new head coach Lauren Cartwright, the Lady Jackets appear primed to take their game to the next level in 2021.
