Texas labor market growth continues into 2024: TWC

The Texas labor market marked recordbreaking growth with January over-themonth increases in jobs, Texans employed, and the civilian labor force. Following annual benchmarking revisions to the 2023 labor market data, Texas’ seasonally adjusted job count increased by 18,900 in January to reach 14,053,400 jobs and achieve growth in 43 of the last 45 months.

The City of Meridian recently provided tips and advice for residents preparing for the large influx of visitors into the county for the total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024 The tips as well as encouragement for residents to work together in welcoming the out-of-town guests were made during a public meeting at the Meridian Civic Center on Thursday, March 7. Meridian City Secretary Tiffany Gentry served as emcee for the public meeting, sharing details about the once-in-alifetime solar eclipse as well as information on the possible impact of visitors who will descend on the area for the event.

What’s the real story behind the Norwegian immigration to America? That’s the question Gunner Nerheim, professor emeritus of modern history at the University of Stavenger, answered during a lecture at the Bosque Museum in Clifton on Sunday, March 2. The Bosque Seven Gallery was filled with anxious lovers of local history as Nerheim launched his new book called “Norseman Deep in the Heart of Texas: Norwegian Immigration 1845 to 1900.” The professor explained that he performed his research in Bosque County out of curiosity for the people from Norway who settled in the area.
