Please join Bosque County Genealogical Society in welcoming Dr. Monte L. Monroe as he speaks on The Importance of Oral Histories to Genealogical and Historical Research.  We will meet on Saturday, July 9, 2022, 1:00 p.m. at the Clifton Civic Center.

Monroe is a very knowledgeable and dynamic speaker.  As we learned from his previous program, genealogy cannot be separated from history.  This program will be beneficial to anyone that does not want family history to disappear as parents and grandparents age.  We all have lost members of our family and wish we had asked more questions.  Our living ancestors are a wealth of knowledge of not only family history, but also the history of the times in which they lived.  Come and learn how to interview your loved ones and archive your family history!!!

Governor Greg Abbott re-appointed Monroe to a second term as the official Texas State Historian on September 28, 2020.  As such, Monroe is responsible for increasing public knowledge about the rich and diverse history of the state, encouraging the teaching of Texas history in public schools, consulting with state leaders to promote Texas history, and making presentations on Texas history topics.

Monroe is Archivist of the Southwest Collection and on faculty at Texas Tech University.  He has served on numerous statewide historic organizational boards and committees and has taught and published widely on Texas history.  The prestigious Philosophical Society of Texas elected him to membership, and he is the immediate past president of The Meriwether Society, Inc., a large national family history organization.  Locally, he is president of the Rotary Club of Lubbock Foundation, and former president of the Downtown Rotary Club.  He serves on the Lubbock Tornado Memorial Gateway Committee and in his earlier life was the only American to have officiated in two Olympic Games in the sport of Taekwondo.

Please join us for this incredible program.  We will also have our Gun Raffle tickets available for purchase at the meeting.  We are raffling two Sig Sauer his and hers pistols.  The drawing will be held at our October meeting.
