Members of the Meridian community showed up to a loosely organized event celebrating our freedoms at the city’s notable public places on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29. In the afternoon, attendees enjoyed free food, live music, and social fellowship at Chisholm Trail Plaza.

Texas House impeaches AG Paxton

T he Texas House voted overwhelmingly to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton Saturday, only the third time in the state’s history that has occurred. The Austin American- Statesman and numerous news outlets reported the chamber voted 121-23 to remove Paxton, 60, from office while he awaits a trial in the Senate during a special session yet to be called.

AARP Texas: 2023 Legislative session delivers wins for older Texans

As Texas lawmakers finished the 2023 regular legislative session, AARP Texas Director Tina Tran noted some accomplishments made on behalf of older Texans. “From prescription drug affordability and funding for adult protective services to high-speed internet access, and much more, we achieved several victories for Texans age 50-plus,” she said.

CTYF to kick off Tuesday, June 6

The week-long Central Texas Youth Fair is gearing up to start on Tuesday, June 6, at the Central Texas Youth Fair Grounds in Clifton. The fair featuring livestock and home economics competitions runs through Saturday, June 10.

Bosque Valley Antique Tractor Club The Bosque Valley Antique Tractor Club will host an antique tractor pull in Clifton City Park on Saturday, June 3, starting at 10 a.m. Folks with not only antique tractors but farm stock, hot rods, and pickup trucks are invited to test their machines’ power during the day-long event.
