Allen Bruce Johannes age 93 of Clifton, passed away on June 18, 2021, in Clifton under the care of Sunset Hospice. 

Memorial services will be held on July 3, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton. Pastor Don Wright will officiate.

Allen Bruce Johannes was born in Niagara Falls, New York on December 16, 1927, to William and Viola Kingston Johannes. He moved to Galveston in 1948 and while there was affiliated with First Lutheran Church and became active in church activities. The next move was to attend Texas Lutheran College (University) and started preparation for the ministry. There in the year of the great flood in Seguin and covered with mud, he met Betty Sue Urban whom he married on August 1, 1954. Allen graduated from Texas Lutheran in 1958. The couple moved to Columbus, Ohio where he attended and graduated from Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary (Trinity) with ordination on June 16, 1962. He served the following congregations: Cat Spring; Haskell; Maxwell; Lockhart; Comfort Warrenton/Waldeck; Faith, Meridian; and St. Peter, Malone. Many long-lasting friendships developed in these churches including youth at the time who have commented on the positive impact he had on their lives.

Family includes two children, Laura and Eric; son-in-law, the Rev. Michael Vaughan; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Sue Johannes; and sister, Faye Johannes Spieler.

He enjoyed camping, hiking, photography and multimedia presentations. In retirement, he and Betty did extensive genealogy research and met many newfound relatives along the way.

Allen was very involved in the community:

Meridian Volunteer Fire Department; North Bosque EMS volunteer for nine years; Past Officer of Meridian Lion's Club; Meridian Chamber of Commerce - past president; Member of Meridian Ministerial Alliance; Member of Bosque County Historical Commission - co-chair with wife, Betty for a number of years; member and past president of Bosque County Conservatory of Fine Arts Photography Club; also a member of numerous genealogical and historical committees.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton, Lutheran Sunset Home in Clifton or charity of your choice.
