Leon Ervin Burreson, 81, passed away on September 4, 2022, at home in hospice care from a cancerous tumor in his brain. He was born in Cranfills Gap on May 17, 1941, to Lora Mae Samuelson Burreson and Ervin Austin Burreson. He went to school in Cranfills Gap and graduated in 1959. In high school he played football for the Cranfills Gap Lions for several years.

After graduation he travelled to Fort Worth to work in an ice cream factory before going to Odessa to join his brother in working in storage tank building. It was there he met his wife of 61 years, Laura Irene Wood, and married on February 25, 1961. His oldest daughter Kim was born in Odessa on September 15, 1962. He then moved back to the Gap to go into business with his father and they worked together for a couple of years and his second daughter Cindy was born on July 21, 1964. He decided then to go to Garland to pursue a career in assembly of helicopter parts. It was there they were blessed with a third daughter Michele on August 16, 1966.

In October of 1977 he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service at the bulk mail center in Garland, joining his wife who also was employed there at this time. They moved to Ennis and commuted to the bulk mail center for many years. He transferred to the Ennis Post Office as a letter carrier and worked there until 2003 when he took retirement.

He was a family man, and he taught his children his values of honesty and fair play. He raised cows and a garden on his 26 acres in Ennis and enjoyed fishing in the tank he stocked with catfish. His children and grandchildren also enjoyed the fishing and time with him. He enjoyed hunting on the family farm with grandsons. At home he enjoyed playing dominoes and card games with all the family. He was competitive and liked to win! Most of all he enjoyed watching his grandsons play football.

One of the highlights of his life was a cruise to Alaska for a week surrounded by family and various trips to Colorado for the summer, traveling in an RV that he owned and spending this time with his brother Gene and wife, Janette.

Preceding him in death are his mother, Lora Mae Burreson; father, Ervin Austin Burreson; brothers-inlaw Joe Dowlearn and Hugh Campbell; sister-in-law, Janette Burreson.
