Meldon R. Thomas, age 91, of Walnut Springs, passed away surrounded by friends on April 21, 2021 at the Glen Rose Nursing and Rehab.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2021 at the Walnut Springs Baptist Church. Pastor T.J. Joyner will officiate. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Walnut Springs, Texas. 

Meldon R. Thomas was born outside of Tulia on June 17, 1929 to Reginald Gordon and Clara Elenza Caraway Thomas. He graduated from Tulia school where he loved attending and playing in the band. Mel joined the United States Air Force in 1948. After being honorably discharged he attended the University of Texas in 1951. He was on the track team and he finished his degree and graduated from TCU in 1955.  Mel worked in United States Administration in New Orleans, Brazil, Nova Scotia, Mexico and Toronto, serving a total of 20 years. In 1983 he went to work in the juvenile probation program in Somervell County and retired after 16 years of service. Mel spoke numerous languages and was an excellent organist. He played the organ for Walnut Springs Baptist Church for over 25 years. 

Left to cherish his memories are his longtime friend, Jim Cheatham; friends Tracy Whitt and T.J. Joyner and numerous other friends in the United States and abroad; a special friend from Ireland for the past half century, Lillian G. Walsh. 

Preceded in death by his parents, Reginald Gordon and Clara Elenza Caraway Thomas.
