Nelda White Grimes, 97, of Speegleville, passed away September 9, 2021, in Waco. Graveside services will be Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. with visitation prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:30 at Clifton Funeral Home. Burial will be at Clifton Cemetery, Clifton.

Nelda was the seventh of eight children born to Fred William Krueger and Martha Olga Behnke. She was born December 22, 1923, in Valley Mills. After graduating high school, she was employed as a waitress in a café and later as a sales clerk at Service Drug Store, both in Clifton. It was at the drugstore that Pat White’s father introduced Pat to Nelda. In June 1946, Pat and Nelda married. To this union two children were born; James Richard and Mary Kathryne. Tragedy struck on November 22, 1961, when James passed away as the result of a deer hunting accident.

After Pat’s death in 1996, Nelda married Edwin Grimes in October 1998. After nearly 13 years of marriage, Edwin passed away in June 2011.

Nelda was preceded in death by her parents; seven siblings; son James; Pat White; and Edwin Grimes. Surviving Nelda is her loving daughter, Mary; three stepchildren, Sallie Kennedy (Albert), Fred Grimes (Nancy), and John Grimes (Darcie); seven step grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving Nelda is a host of relatives and friends.

Honorary pallbearers are Tom White, Claude White, Gus Krueger Jr., Jerry Bell, Milton Zander and Steve Robertson.
