Lady Cubs finishing strong early

With the Clifton Lady Cub volleyball team staying busy by design early in the season, they pick up this week right where they left off coming out of the opening week of the 2023 Texas high school volleyball season. After beginning the season with six matches last week, the Lady Cubs (3-3) travel to Rio Vista Tuesday before playing in the highly-competitive Glen Rose Tournament Friday and Saturday.

Jackets prepare for first challenge

Seeking their first postseason appearance in six seasons, the Class 2A, Division II Meridian Yellowjackets will open the 2023 Texas high school football campaign with high hopes of continuing the rebuilding process during the second year under veteran athletic director and football head coach Jim Kerbow. After putting in four days of conditioning and no contact drills last week, the Jackets put on the pads for the first time last Friday morning, and did so as temperatures began heating up to over 105 degrees by the end of practice.

Cubs face first test on the road

After taking the first step in getting the Clifton Cub football program back where it belongs last season, second-year head coach Brent Finney expects to pick up right where they left off by qualifying for the Class 3A, Division II playoffs for the first time in three years in 2022. With a week of conditioning and no contact drills under their belts, the Cubs put on the pads for the first time Monday in extremely hot temperatures soaring over 105 degrees.

With Meridian volleyball head coach Lyndsie Schur entering her second season at the helm, the Lady Jackets will have a wealth of talent and experience focused on returning to the Class 1A playoffs.
