Feral Hog Abatement program underway

With over 40 people attending the first Bosque County Feral Hog Abatement education program, the project is shaping up to be a success. Hunters are able to turn their hog tails into cash in an effort to rid the county of invasive and destructive feral hogs.

Live up to their legacy

Once again this year, millions of Americans will come together to remember the fallen, honor those that served and their families, and teach the next generation about the value of freedom. This gathering of volunteers and patriots takes place in local, state and national cemeteries in all 50 states, including the three cemeteries in Cranfills Gap and three cemeteries in Clifton, as part of National Wreaths Across America Day. This year’s theme, Live up to their Legacy, was chosen to help volunteers and supporters focus their messaging and outreach in their own communities.

Clifton Food Bank works to meet community needs

Over the past few weeks, the Clifton Food Bank has increased quantities of food items distributed to clients and have added items such as cooking oil, salt and shelf-stable milk. Although some items may be out of stock due to supply and demand, the food bank tries to stay in stock during operating hours.

Council approves plans for veterans memorial

Andrea Wallum stood before the Meridian City Council to propose a Meridian Veteran’s Memorial be placed in Meridian. Wallum said she had several meetings with multiple people and was told Betsey Pittman from Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) would be a good person to speak with about how to go forward with the idea. Wallum sent her ideas to Pittman and came up with the idea she was presenting to the council.

Following the murder of fourth-grade teacher Mickey Bryan 36 years ago, – on Oct. 15, 1985 – fear and shock washed over Clifton, and local authorities soon arrested her husband, Joe Bryan. Four months earlier another crime rocked the small town – the murder of 17-year-old Judy Whitley, later linked to former Clifton police officer Dennis Dunlap.
